Call for City Coucil to enact resolution on anti-Jewish hate and bigotry
June 15, 2024 - The Anti-Discrimination Center, noting the surge in anti-Jewish hate and bigotry in New York City, is asking the City Council to enact the following Resolution:
Resolved, That the Council of the City of New York:
1) Deplores the explosing of anti-Jewish hate and bigotry in our City. [Note that the usual “equal time” addendum of “and all other forms of hate and bigotry” is not included. This is a particularized crisis.”
2) Acknowledges the frequency with which “anti-Zionism” is used as but a feeble cover for anti-Jewish hate and bigotry. [The crimes at the home of the Brooklyn Museum director and on the subway are just recent illustration of a much larger and deeply pernicious phenomenon.]
3) Demands the Mayor immediately mobilize the resources of all relevant City agencies to conduct criminal and civil investigations and prosecutions into those acts of anti-Jewish hate and bigotry that violate the Penal Law or the Human Rights Law. [This is an emergency and should be treated as such; it isnot just NYPD that needs to do more.]
4) Implores the U.S. Justice Department and the U.S. Attorneys for the Souther and Eastern Districts of New York to establish a Joint Task Force on Anti-Jewish Hate and Bigotry in New York City to investigate and prosecute violations of federal law. [Many such violations are being committed and the violators are becoming ever more emboldened.]
