December unemployment numbers (which do not even take account of discouraged workers or those who are unwillingly working only part-time) rose substantially.
In New York City, the rate rose 1.0% to 7.0%
In New York State, excluding New York City, the rate rose to 6.6%
Federal data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, are also sobering here are data for those 20 years of age and older, broken down by race and gender (as with the data above, these data do not take account of discourage workers or those obliged to work part-time).
Unemployment of White women = 5.5%
Unemployment of White men = 6.5%
Unemployment of African-American women = 8.9%
Unemployment of African-American men = 13.4%
